Here's the latest on MGMT's next album, and also the elk and deers that are going to get their 'faces rocked off'

Andy VanWyngarden of MGMT and NME sat down backstage at last weekend's V Festival for a quick chat on the bands new album, how the recording process is going, and how the wildlife are doing in the rollng fields surrounding the venue.

MGMT also payed tribute to Oasis by performing a cover of 'Live Forever' and bringing a Liam Gallagher cut-out on stage with them. Liam fell sick and couldn't make it to his band's headlining spot. They threw in the towel for the first time in their year long tour.

MGMT break out a punk cover at music festival, un-punk it

I've never heard of The Clean or their track 'Anything Can Happen,' but apparently MGMT has as they broke out a cover of it at the All Points West music festival in Jersey the other weekend.

Apparently The Clean are a punk band from New Zealand who started out back 1978, or so. You know, back when punk was punk and those damn kiwis hadn't taken over the island.

"I remember he had all these Phish posters on the wall. I was like, 'Who is this Teva-wearing motherfucker?'"

- Boy Crisis member Tal Rozen on MGMT's Andrew VanWyngarden. Check out this killer profile on the college generation that turned out Brooklyn's new scene.

MGMT is scheduled to play a show at the Pipeline Cafe in Honolulu later this week (7/16). Oahu's Honolulu Advertiser shot over a few questions for Andrew to answer before they arrive on the island. Among them, what is the soundtrack to his days and nights:

HA: What are you listening to right now?

ANDREW: "Tangerine Dream, the Rolling Stones. I'm sort of really out of touch with new music. It's like I'm living in the '70s!'

Hear MGMT's New Song 'Congratulations' Right Now!

As we mentioned earlier MGMT have been playing a new song off their next album, due this coming winter. The album will be titled Congratulations. A couple nights ago MGMT played a show in Memphis, Tenn., where they presented 'Congratulations' to their audience.

And here it is for you.

Bruce Springsteen stuck around Bonnaroo 2009 until almost 4AM to catch MGMT's headlining performance in the 'That Tent' on Saturday night. Bruce played around midnight earlier in the evening. The guy who caught it on camera posted "we saw dudes that looked like secret service scouting the place out...made jokes about the boss showing up, but then he really did. funny. this was during kids (obviously). taken right before the "secret service" cat made sure i was aware that filming the boss was not okay."

Reviews of the music festival say MGMT were all everyone was talking about all day Saturday. The tent was packed over an hour before they went on stage. When they did appear, the crowd burst into an explosion of glow sticks, beach balls and dancing. MGMT also played a new song titled 'Congratulations' off their upcoming album.

A Paul McCartney - MGMT Collaboration Only A Phone Call Away

A Paul McCartney - MGMT Collaboration Only A Phone Call Away

"It was twenty years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play. They've been goin' in out of style, but they're guaranteed to raise a smile. So let me introduce to you, a band you've known for all these years - Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band!"

With those words Paul McCartney and his fellow Beatles released the groundbreaking experimental album that set musical history. Today Sir Paul says he is desires a collaboration with the undeniable current leaders in psychedelic musical hits - MGMT.

Macca says he's just waiting for the call from the guys:

"I like MGMT. I'd like to work on some more dancey stuff with MGMT. But it has to happen organically."

"We need to talk about it. I can't call them. If they called me, I'd say, 'How did you get my number?'. But I'd do it."

Not many 26-year-olds out there with a Beatle saying 'call me.'

Empire Of The Sun bring it all out for their new video 'Standing on the Shore'

Empire Of The Sun is out with a new video for Standing on the Shore, complete with marlin faced ladies, exotic deserted locations, and dancing in magical caves. One of the more original videos I've seen in a while, I will say.

Empire singer Luke Steele just canceled a bunch of promotional events because of exhaustion. He was quoted as saying "I arrived back in Australia and couldn't find the energy to do anything. I couldn't move and I hardly ate."

"The doctor said I was exhausted physically and mentally. I'm now on a high-protein diet and taking shakes to build up my strength. I also go on 2km walks every morning with my wife, my daughter and my dog."
