Dirty Penny - Young And Reckless And On The Rad Report

Dirty Penny - Young And Reckless And On The Rad Report

Young and Reckless is the name of the new album by Dirty Penny, and it also should be known as the theme to their release party that was held a couple weeks ago in their hometown of Santa Cruz Calif.

We sat down with 'em for a chat on their new music, life on the road, and a session of 'remember that.'

Some highlights: drummer Spanky can't do backflips. Big chunks of metal can hurt tour vans, and I'm a horrible horrible interviewer. Watch all the action right here right here right here.

Hollywoodreporter: The people who brought you such shit as The Hills and The City, MTV is now making a Teen Wolf remake show.

Prefix: Jay-Z attends indie rock concert, says hip-hop sucks right now.

NME: The new Gorillaz album will feature The Horrors.

Techcrunch: And now Twitter is bigger than MySpace... in Europe.

This Is So Rad (And I Don't Say That Much) (Ok I Do)

California... knows how to party. That was solidified this summer on a classic Golden State day when we got Santa Cruz hard rock and roll band Dirty Penny on a roof top in San Francisco. Tyno, Binge, Spanky and Jonny threw down a set that inspirerd the neighborhood to take to their roofs and tune in for blocks. It was a day you say to yourself this is why the word 'this is so fucking RAD' exists. Wait what? Then we hit the town to keep the party going and the cameras rolling. What we captured 'Midnight Ride' put to film.

And yes that roof is my house and oh yes we are doing it again. This time you are welcome to join. We'll let you know.

Last weekend we snuck onto the set of Dirty Penny's music video shoot and loitered around for a while. The guys were shooting the video for the first single, 'If I Were You I'd Hate Me To', off their soon to be released sophomore album. I can't offer many details right now except there was lots of Red Bull and it's fucking sick, but here are a couple pictures I surreptitiously snapped while lurking around.

If you were an alien, pointing your high-tech intergalactic telescope from the window of your flying saucer last weekend, and you happened to zoom in on Oklahoma, you'd be scared of Earth and never come back.

That's because a hundred hair metal bands converged into Rocklahoma for three days of loud shredding music rocking the hell out of everything. Twisted Sister, Anthrax, LA Guns, Ratt, Skid Row, Great White, Warrant, Faster Pussycat, and Anvil were there playing for the thousands of fans in 100 plus degree heat about forty five minutes from Tulsa.

Santa Cruz metalers Dirty Penny rocked the Strip Stage on Friday night. We spoke to guitarist Jonny where he told us "It was fucking crazy. Probably 140 degrees onstage..."

Here they are that night.

Musicians react to the passing of the King of Pop

Musicians react to the passing of the King of Pop

Musicians of every genre are expressing how Michael Jackson has influenced their music and affected their lives. We've gathered the initial reactions of his death a handful of artists. Some exclusive, some from Twitter. Across the board everyone is so shocked:

Mark Hoppus - Blink-182: first album i ever bought was thriller. with birthday money. on cassette. for my brand new sony walkman. truth. rest in peace.

Jarvis - Iglu and Hartly: "Michael Jackson has been an inspiration to music lovers everywhere.  He transformed pop music forever and has inspired Iglu and Hartly.  This is sad news for everyone I know."

Jonny Prynce - Dirty Penny: "Fuck. This is like Elvis dying. I  still watch the Dirty Diana video on YouTube like once a week. That shit is metal. He will be missed."

Producer/Musician Cisco Adler: "Wow Michael Jackson is dead! Very sad day... I'm in the studio... we are dedicating this song to the king of pop!"

Katy Perry: "Oh my God."

Lily Allen: "No fucking way"

DJ Steve Aoki: "This is bigger than any artist dying in our lifetime. Bigger than elvis and freddie mercury for me."

DJ Aaron Axelson: "extra MJ and Jackson 5 selections on the decks tonight"

Rad hat spotting!

Rad hat spotting!

Tyno Vincent of Dirty Penny looking pretty sharp in his new hat. Ladies, look at Tyno and remember one thing: when you bring a guy home to mom and he's wearing the Rad Hat, your mother is likely to be very accepting and proud.

Guys remember that to!

Hats available in the store. And have a pic?? Send it in we'll throw you up!

Just did something pretty crazy. On the road with Dirty Penny...

Last weekend we hopped on the road with our friends in Dirty Penny for a giant bash in Santa Barbara. And folks...

It was pure insanity. So much fun.

Theme of the trip somehow turned into laughing at Asher Roth who just so happened to be playing at the Extravaganza down the street. We made sure we were gonna do something crazy, like the song says. DP played the Marley House which is just like everything else in Isla Vista - and that's pretty much just a giant trash pile on the beach. Trust me: I spent two nights sleeping on their floor. In between two guys. Yeah it sucked.

Anyways, Dirty Penny took down the house with their set of new and old material. The new stuff is from an upcoming album which should be available soon. We'll have some stuff for ya on TRR.

The video is a couple clips we shot over the course of a few crazy hours on the little Flip cam. Oh man.

Tonight (May 18) Dirty Penny is playing the Elbo Room in San Francisco. We'll be there for sure. If you're around hit me up and we'll make it happen (theradreport[at]gmail.com). Yeah!
