We spent an evening with Hockey at the punk venue Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. Before the show we met up with the guys for a quick convo on life, and things. Have a look.
Emily, James, Josh and Joules of Metric have a couple new songs for you. The songs are b-sides off 'Fantasies' and are featured on the soundtrack of a new Michael Cera film. Director Edgar Wright hit up the band for music, and as Metric explains, "It just so happened we had the beginnings of a song that suited the project perfectly from our early "Fantasies" recording sessions at Bear Creek, and with a little work we finished the song, called it "Black Sheep" and it became a pivotal track in the movie, which is an adaptation of a graphic novel byBryan Lee O'Malley that centers around a young group of musicians and is due out later this year."
Become a fan of the band and download your songs right here.
When you go the MGMT website to download their new song, Flash Delirium, take a moment to gaze at all of the doodled band logos circulating on top of the page. There are some really cool ones. I think my favorite is the sunglasses. There's one where the letters are melting into a puddle that is pretty cool to. Just remember to not forget the free song. It's great.
In the 21st century digital world, where the most popular form of buying music is illegally downloading it for free, MGMT is providing an incentive to purchase their new compact disc in a 'pre-sale'. Pre-sale opportunties are interesting to record labels because file-sharing sites and teenagers laptops aren't filled with the new mp3s.
Congratulations pre-sale purchases come with a bonus, really cool, collectable coin and 32-page booklet. And the cover is interactive in the form of scratch-off technology.
I feel like back in the '90s record labels would charge you at least 20% - 100% more for collectable items like this. But now when competing with consumers who will rob them blind, the price remains at the affordable $13.00. Here is a demonstration video they made:
Murdoc Niccals of the Gorillaz has revealed why he is stuck out on the Plastic Beach, where floating silcone implants are mistaken for jellyfish and green fog surrounds the island. In nonspecific fearful detail Murdoc claims "One of the reasons I’m out here….I…I …something. Something happened out in California…"
"I got chased through the desert. Shot at! Bullets flying everywhere!! And now I’ve seen the footage!!! It’s….IT’S HIM!!!"
If you have nine minutes to kill how about spending it watching The Strokes order sushi, and record a new album. In a cameo appearance Jimi Hendrix even smokes a cigarette.
This day in the life of Fab, Albert, Nikolai and Nick doesn't incorporate the company of singer Julien, but the band still manages to record a smash single about doing crazy rock stuff like breaking things. Check it out.
V.V. Brown wrote a few songs on her debut album, Traveling Like The Light, about her break up with "one particular arsehole". It's hard to imagine anyone being an arsehole to the lively and lovely V.V., but it did happen and out of the ashes came her wonderful music.
We talked to V.V. about her songs, her nicknames, and causing a little trouble. Have a look.
Recently I heard an angel sing and her name was V.V. Brown. The angel wore the prettiest little dresses, had a lovely retro hair style, and a British accent. She also happened to be on iTunes, and featured as the free single of the week. I say go check it out, quick.
