Rancid singer Tim Armstrong recentlystopped by BlastSurf N Skate in Playa del Rey and treated the boys to an acoustic performance. Not too bad having the legendary punk singer playing a show for you in your local shop.
A sushi restaurant in Santa Monica is done serving customers very expensive little pieces of endangered whale after Pennywise singer Zoli Teglas and the Sea Shepherd Society shut them down by way of undercover activity.
The Hump restaurant was serving Sei Whale sashimi to customers who requested an "exotic dish and taste" that would "push your comfort level."
When Zoli and the Sea Shepherds heard about the illegal edibles, they set up a sting financed by a private doner. After purchasing $6,000 worth of bite sized whale meat, they sent some samples to a lab and turned Federal Agents onto the results.
Now The Hump is facing fines of $200,000 among other legal liabilities. Here is Teglas at the press conference, via The Gauntlet:
Check out the new video from Frank Turner for his ballad Isabel. The song comes off the Manchester singer's latest album Poetry of The Deed. In classic Frank style, the song takes a look back at youth, with one eye on the future. And a bit of love thrown in for good measure.
Believe it or not but Bad Religion has been around for 30 years. The Southern California punk band, who formed in 1980, is celebrating their 30th anniversary this Spring with a tour and a present to all their fans - a free live album. And the live album will contain a few new songs.
Greg and Brett and the rest of the band announced on their website, "To celebrate three decades of Bad Religion, we'll be recording a live album during our spring 2010 tour, and offering it as a free 'thank you' to the loyal fans who've been with us through all the sweet and mayhem."
"We'll be playing a few tracks at the shows from our new album, coming this fall, so this will be a great way to get a preview of the new tunes."
SoCal punk rock staples Pennywise have joined this summer's Warped Tour for a few weeks worth of dates.
Pennywise, with new singer Zoli Teglas, will be playing Warped from July 20th to Aug 8th. So basically the East Coast and Mid-West.
The 2010 Warped Tour kicks off in San Diego on Jun. 24th, and then up California and over to the desert of Arizona.
One noticable - and unrelated - complaint heard of this year's tour is trading the gorgeous Pier 30/32 stop in San Francisco for the parking lot of Shoreline in Mountain View.
Anywho, here's the Pennywise announcement by Fletcher and Zoli:
Travis Barker got into an altercation with a group of paparazzi when he was at breakfast with his children. After breakfast Skinhead Rob from The Transplants and a couple of Barker's other friends came to back him up. The Transplants of course are made up of Travis, Rob, and Tim Armstrong of Rancid.
Check out a video that a pap shot of the fight right here.
On Travis' Twitter he has responded a little of the incident: "When I'm out at breakfast at 8am in the morning the last thing i appreciate is some photographer threatening me 2 a fight while he's 3 deep"
"When i defend myself/my kids that don't make me a tough guy .I was outnumbered and threatened so i did what any man would."
Santa Cruz punk reggae band The Expendables have a new album, Prove It, coming out this Spring. Singer Geoff Weers recently played an acoustic version the track 'Trying To Focus' at the MoBoogie Loft. According to Geoff the song covers the topic of "driving, playin, driving, playin, driving, playin... and having sex with weird women."
Vampire Weekend singer Ezra Koenig has in the past mentioned his affection for the old Bay Area ska band Operation Ivy. Recently, on a British radio show V.W. was asked to play a cover of any song they chose, and Ruby Soho by Rancid was their choice. Rancid of course is the band that came from the disintegration of Op Ivy. Have a listen to the Vamps version:
I cranked up the radio the other day when, to my surprise, 'The Dirty Heads ft. Rome' song Lay Me Down suddenly came on. It was pretty cool since I just read a thank you letter from singer Jared saying "This is a huuuuuuuuuge thanks to everyone out there, taking time, and going out of their way to request DH at KROQ, and you're local radio stations."
The band just released some pro shot live footage of the track. Check it out.
The latest music video from Bay Area alternative rock artists AFI has been released. Beautiful Thieves features the band performing in a house owned by "a crazy woman with a bunch of horses," as guitarist Jade exclusively told us. Check out the video and then check out our convo with band right here.
