Perry Ferrell left the first show of the first night on tour with his reunited band in an ambulence after tearing his calf muscle mid-set. And I know you're wondering: that's his wife. According to Spin.com, doctors have recommended Ferrell to stay off his leg for at least four days, but he is currently planning on performing when the tour's next stop kicks off on Tuesday (May 12).
Also, according to areview of that first show, Ferrell is lucky he left the ambulence with only a torn calf, and by himself. Reports put Perry and Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro nearly at blows with each other during the show:
"The animosity is especially evident between singer Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro, who did everything to show each other up. Perry posed stage left; Dave did likewise. Farrell mounted a monitor; there went Navarro. That the two didn't come to blows is a miracle of modern rock -- or perhaps testament to that calming bottle of Merlot Farrell was swiggin' throughout the set."
The best thing about getting in a fight with Dave Navarro is he never wears a shirt and has nipple rings. Yoink!
Nine Inch Nails has always been unbeliveably enthusiastic about giving away music to their fans, and now they're bringing Janes Addiction in with 'em.
NIN, JA, and Street Sweeper are giving away a six song album of previously unreleased songs. Two from each band. They're calling in NINJA. Get it? L.O.L. (Sweep sweeper got left out.) So yeah, grab your NINJA right ---> here.
Jane's Addiction played a small club show in Los Angeles last night. They gave 500 tickets out to fans on their mailing list. Yesterday it was announced the reunited band is going on tour with Nine Inch Nails for a sort of farewell tour. Here's Jane's playing '1%'.
Today Trent Reznor called today's top bands "poseurs and pussies", and then announced that Nine Inch Nails will go on one final tour this year with Jane's Addiction as the supporting act. In his letter, Trent explained how this tour came to be:
Towards the beginning of my career in Nine Inch Nails, our biggest break came in the form of an invitation to perform a series of shows with Jane's Addiction. These performances essentially created and defined the term "alternative" rock in the US, created an ongoing festival franchise that is still thriving (Lollapalooza), set the stage for Nirvana to shift popular taste a few months later, and were really fucking FUN to play and attend - truly the best times I've had. The shows were epic. So epic, they propelled NIN to the "next level" (whatever that means), but caused Jane's to implode. The band broke up at the end of that tour.
Reznor then explains how he's been wanting NIN to fall into semi-retirement. After last year's intense tour he says he just wishes for a fun way to end it all:
After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year. The approach to these shows is quite different from last year - much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted. Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye. I reached out to Jane's to see if they'd want to join us across the US and we all felt it could be a great thing. Will it work? Will it resonate in the marketplace? Who knows. Is there big record label marketing dollars to convince you to attend? Nope. Does it feel right to us and does it seem like it will be fun for us and you? Yes it does.
Trent also ripped into a few bands and the state of music. It's kinda funny. But I actually like music right now. I think there's a lot of good bands coming out. It's mainly just the old bands that are sucking.
Trent Reznor has been posting little clues from the studio the last couple days that seem to say Nine Inch Nails is recording with Janes Addiction. Like that picture of him and Dave Navarro sitting in the studio together with the caption "a look at something else that's going on, pt. 4". There is also pictures of the Janes Addiction bass player and drummer on the NIN blog.
