Free Teahupoo Film ‘Code Red,’ And The Drunk Diet Plus, Best Coast 'The Only Place' First Listen
In summer of 2011 the Tahitian government called a Code Red warning for their coastline. That basically means the waves are too heavy for anyone to go in the water. So naturally the worlds best big wave surfers scrambled to find every jet ski they can and hit the surf. The result is some of the largest, scariest waves ever surfed. And it was all captured in hi-def super slo-mo. The footage has been released by Billabong for a free surf movie titled Code Red. You can find it at that link, on YouTube.
Being the fat-ass that I am, I recently had a weight loss book shipped to me. Sounds ridiculous, but I’m actually enjoying it. It’s called The Drunk Diet: How I Lost 40 Pounds… Wasted. It’s a story of a rock and roll dude who was living the life until pizza and beer turned him into a chubbo. He decided to change his life, and the resulting book is a hilarious, cursing filled tale of learning to love jogging, and enjoying your evenings at the same time. Very Recommended.
And finally… The new Best Coast album has leaked. I’m not going to tell you where you can find The Only Place, but I will tell you that I am very pleasantly surprised with the band’s sophomore album. Their sound has definitely evolved. The title track is my favorite off the album.
Ok that’s all for me. Have a nice day

The Hot Babes Of Professional Surfing Plus, New Joey Ramone Album and Half Cab Turns 20
On today’s Daily Detour:
I’ve noticed something in professional surfing over the last year or so that has really caught my eye. Have you seen how many hot babes are pro surfers these days? When did girl surfers get so hot? Check out this video Erica Hosseini just released. And Alana Blanchard’s Instagram account is pretty much my favorite on earth. Yowzer.
So this year, 2012, marks the 20th anniversary of the greatest skate show ever – the Half Cab. Steve Caballero sent out two dozen pairs of shoes to his favorite artists. They will customize the shoes and all will be displayed in an exhibit later this year. Can’t wait to see.
Joey Ramone is releasing a solo album. Yeah, you heard that right. The dead Joey Ramone will be releasing his second solo album. If you’re worried this is just an attempt to make a bunch of money off the late singer’s reputation you have a right to be skeptical. But Joey’s brother Mickey is executive producer of the album and promises this will be a real album with songs Joey wanted to release. Should be out soon. I’m definitely curious as to how this one will sound.

Heavy Metal Rules Scandinavia, and Michael Peterson Passes Away METAL, METAL, METAL
From Today’s episode:
Hey It’s me, Eddie DaRoza. I’m back after my weeklong birthday surf trip. I got no surf… but I did get a black eye, hang out on a boat, watch a dog smoke a pipe shaped like a wiener, and experience the crappy Beverly Hills bus system.
What if I told you there was a place where blonde girls ride around on bikes all day, drink beers out of huge glasses, and listen to heavy metal music. There is a place like that, and it is called Scandinavia. Check out this chart from The Guardian that color codes the concentration of heavy metal bands to population. Scandinavia kills it!
If you have an interest in expanding your photography skills I’ve found a pretty cool online resource. CreativeLive is a site that hosts video workshops in photography and video work. Always good keep the education going.
As you might have heard the legendary Aussie surfer Michael Peterson died this week of a heart attack. Peterson was famous for his shredding at Kirra, and his surfing there created one of surfings quintessional photos, known only as The Cutback. The documentary Searching For Michael Peterson has appeared on YouTube. Definitely worth the time to watch.
