Max Tannone is just roping out these reggae hip-hop mixtapes. That Mos Dub album he released a few months ago gets me through work on the regular. The only person I know who hates that album is my boss.
This time Tannone has Dub Kweli, "a remix of Talib Kweli and classic dub reggae tracks," notes the DJ. It's available for download on his site right now.
Back in the mid-1990s the best original song to come out of any surf movie was 'What is Really Goin Wrong' by Chicken. The song was so good, Chicken actually recorded a version with a drunken Bradley Nowell of Sublime and it made it onto their album. The legend has it that Chicken agreed to a $25k buyout of the Sublime version, and he's been pissed ever since.
Back to the surf movie. The film by ...Lost has gone down in history as one of the best surf videos of all time. What is surf culture of 1996 without Randall getting hair burnt off? Not as funny, that's what it is.
This is all relevant because our sponsor Seshday.com is selling a bunch of Lost stuff right now for really cheap. Go pick up some boardies or a t-shirt. Free shipping over $50. Check it out here. And here's WIRGW:
Who doesn't love the old Supremes videos? Diana Ross and Baby Love. Come on now, son. As my Hawaiian brudduhs would say it don't get mo betta.
The Drums have released their video for the '50s inspired love song 'Down By The Water'. The band has said “both the video and song are a tribute to the girl groups of the 50's and 60's, a great inspiration to the band and one of the reasons we started it."
Green aliens skating mini ramps and punks lurkin' on the curb outside 7-11. Just a couple of the things you'll find in the new video from Wavves for 'Post Acid'.
The video hasn't been officially released into the world at this moment, but you can check it out in exchange for a tweet over on their website. Just do it.
A new MGMT video starring Ben and Andrew walking through the desert, as a mysterious creature falls to pieces in front of their very eyes, can be seen now.
In the 'Congratulations' video the main subject, a dino-looking little guy, struggles as he walks through the desert, across sand dunes, sun beating down. As his limbs fall off the poor little fella continues on. He has the determination to make it. To stick it out. Reach the end. Even without a leg. All he's looking for is a little congratulations.
A recording of the only known radio inteview featuring Oasis and BlurIN THE SAME ROOM has been uncovered by Live 105 Music Director Aaron Axelson.
The interview was held at the height of the Brit Pop battle in 1994. Both bands had a stop in San Francisco to perform at local venues. Axelson tells the story:
I was an intern at the time for EMI records and also Live 105, and was in charge of driving around BLUR for the day doing press and radio interviews as they were in town for a show at The Fillmore with fellow brits PULP as openers. My best pal and roommate Adrian Moreira had a similar position over at Sony Music and was quarterbacking a local press run with OASIS who ironically enough, were playing their FIRST show in San Francisco at Bottom Of The Hill the night after BLUR.
Being young opportunists trying to break into the music biz and wanting to capitalize on a potential big press-worthy story, Adrian and I secretly worked out a plan with then Live 105 Music Director and night DJ Steve Masters to separately bring BLUR and OASIS to the Live 105 studios for an on-air interview…. unbeknownst to EACH band that the other would be there.
Liam's in top form as he fields calls from listeners. This one is a must here. Check out some pics and the rest of the story on the Live 105 blog.
Last time I went to a Deer Tickshow singer John McCauley got so drunk he ended up playing half the show in his tighty whities, and I'm pretty sure he pierced his nipple with some sort of pin. It was and super fun time. Anyways, the band has announced a fall tour to support their new album 'The Black Dirt Sessions'.
