Last weekend we happened to catch up with alternative rock band The Almost at the Warfield in San Francisco, when they cruised into town on their tour with The Used. We hopped on the bus with 'em and talked about their new album (Monster Monster), their next music video (Hands), who cooks dinner on tour and what's up with a few other things in their lives. Check it out - always good times!
The line-up for KROQ's annual Christmas party has been announced. MUSE and AFI will headline the two day Almost Acoustic concert with bands like Metric, The Bravery, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend and Cage The Elephant taking other spots on the bill.
Vampire Weekend is scheduled to play a free show at a skate park in the Southern California town of Lake Elsinore tomorrow (11/13). Ezra and the guys are wrapping up a small club tour of off-the-beaten-track California towns like Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo, and Visalia.
In a letter Ezra stated "We've been having an amazing time in California. The shows have been incredible. Thanks to everyone who's been coming out."
"The tour is coming to an end but we want to do one last free, all-ages show for our fans in Southern California so we're going to do our first-ever skate park show!"
The skate park show will be held at 4:00pm @ Alliance Skate, 29355 Grand Ave. Lake Elsinore, CA 92530.
Last weekend Metric and Silversun Pickups played a secret party in SF at the legendary North Beach club Bimbos. 'Ding Dong' was the password. As usual Emily Haines stole the show, and hearts of every guy there.
Stay classy SD. Your alternative music station 91X just announced the line-up for their Wrex The Halls festival. For $39 this December 13th could be an evening with AFI, Rise Against, 30 Seconds To Mars, Anberlin, and Paper Tougues.
The Bay Area's winter alternative music festival, Not So Slient Night, just announced the line-up for 2009. 'Greatest live band in the world' Muse is headlining with local boys AFI right below, and 30 Seconds To Mars, Vampire Weekend, and Metric following.
Here's the line to the free MySpace 'Secret Show' featuring Weezer and Natalie Portman's Shaved Head last night in San Francisco. Oh wait I mean here's the line four hours before the doors were to open. I didn't even make it to the end of the line. Too many blocks.
And here's the trailer for their new video 'I Want You To':
MGMT headlined day one of the Treasure Island Music Festival with a set containing every song from their debut album and four new tracks. They played in front of a backdrop of live light projections and silhouettes made by a crew of performers off stage.
The music festival, thrown on the scenic island in the middle of the San Francisco Bay, also hosted electronic artists Girl Talk, Dan Deacon, MSTRKRFT and local boys The Limousines on the sold-out opening day. Just of the comments overheard from mesmerized attendees: "MGMT is one of the greatest bands of our time," and "holy crap, just when you think you've seen every type of Girl Talk performances...FIREWORKS!! Amazing Treasure Island show and MGMT was awesome."
Here's MGMT opening their set with Time To Pretend:
"They said they were gonna get us and we said there was no way they are gonna get us. Sure enough they got us." Those are the famous last words of Asher Roth on his last night on the road with Blink-182. Asher and his crew got punked pretty ridiculously by Blink as they were wrapping up their final set. I think you can say it 'went down before you could Blink.' Just can never plan enough for some things.
But be careful folks. This prank is the gift that keeps on giving. Just when you think the worst is over, well, nope. The hilarity has only begun!
The Pogues are currently touring around the West Coast. Tonight (10/14) the Scottish punks are playing in SF, before moving down the Pacific Highway for a couple shows in Southern California.
Here's Shane and crew getting through a rendition of The Irish Rover on the night they kicked off the tour - Oct. 10 in Seattle.
